A. 12:1-13:1a EARTHLY AND HEAVENLY WARS RELATED
1. 12:1-6 HEAVENLY SIGN OF DRAGON AND WOMAN
a. 12:1-2 SIGN OF THE WOMAN WITH CHILD

And a great sign was seen in the heaven:

a woman arrayed with the sun, and the moon under her :feet,

and on her :head a crown of twelve stars;

2 and she was with child; and she cries out, travailing, and in pain to be delivered.
b. 12:3 SIGN OF THE DRAGON

And another sign was seen in the heaven:

and lo, a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns,

and upon his :heads seven diadems.
c. 12:4 THE DRAGON'S FOLLOWERS AND PURPOSE

And his :tail draws the third of the stars of the heaven,
kai Eba-len auTOUS eis ten gen: kai ho DRAkon
and he cast them to the earth: and the dragon

stands before the woman :about to be delivered,

that when she is delivered he may devour her :child.
d. 12:5 THE WOMAN'S SON
kai Ete-ken huiON, ARsen, hos MELlei poiMAInein [4165] PANta ta ETHne en 'RABdo[4464]si-deRA [4603]:
And she was delivered of a son, a male, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron:
kai herPASthe[726]to TEKnon auTES pros ton TheON, kai pros ton THROnon [2362]auTOU.
and her :child was caught up unto :God, and unto his :throne.
e. 12:6 THE WOMAN'S PLACE OF ESCAPE
kai he guNEEphu-gen [5343]eis ten Ere-mon [2048],
And the woman fled into the wilderness,
HOpou Echei eKEI TOpon [5117] he-toi-masMEnon [2090]aPO tou TheOU, HIna eKEI
where she has there a place prepared of :God, that there

they may nourish her a thousand two hundred threescore days.
2. 12:7-13:1a MICHAEL DEFEATS DRAGON, WHO PERSECUTES WOMAN
a. 12-7-8 MICHAEL CASTS THE DRAGON OUT OF HEAVEN

And war was in the heaven:
ho Mi-chaEL kai hoi AGge-loi auTOU tou po-leMEsai [4170]meTA tou DRAkon-tos;
:Michael and his :angels going to war with the dragon;
kai ho DRAkon e-poLEme-sen kai hoi AGge-loi auTOU; kai ouk ISchu-sen [2480],
and the dragon warred and his :angels; 8 and he prevailed not,
ouDE TOpos euREtheauTON Eti en toou-raNO.
neither was their :place found any more in the heaven.
b 12:9 THE DRAGON AND ANGELS CAST DOWN TO EARTH
kai eBLEthe[906]ho DRAkon ho MEgas, ho Ophis [3789]ho arCHAIos,
And the great :dragon was cast down, the old :serpent,
ho kaLOUme-nos diAbo-los [1228] kai ho Sa-taNAS [4567]; ho plaNON [4105]
the one called Devil and :Satan; who deceives
ten oi-kouMEnen [3625]HOlen; eBLEtheeis ten gen, kai hoi AGge-loi auTOU met' auTOU eBLEthe-san.
the whole inhabited earth; he was cast down to the earth, and his :angels were cast down with him.
c. 12:10 GOD'S KINGDOM COMES INTO ITS OWN WHEN SATAN CAST DOWN
kai Ekou-sa phoNEN [5456]meGAlen en toou-raNO, LEgou-san,
And I heard a great voice in the heaven, saying,
ARti eGEne-to heso-teRIa [4991], kai he DUna-mis [1411], kai he ba-siLEIa [932],
Now is the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom,
tou TheOU heMON, kai he e-xouSIa [1849]tou ChrisTOU auTOU:
become our God's, and the authority is becomehis Christ's:
HOti eBLEtheho kaTEgor [2725]ton a-delPHON heMON,
for the accuser of our :brethren is cast down,
ho ka-te-goRON [2723]auTOUS eNOpi-on tou TheOU heMON heMEras kai nukTOS.
who accuses them before our :God day and night.
d. 12:11 HOW BRETHREN OVERCOME THE DRAGON
kai auTOI eNIke-san [3528]auTON diA to HAIma [129]tou arNIou [721],
And THEY overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb,
kai diA ton LOgon [3056] tes mar-tuRIas [3141]auTON;
and because of the word of their :testimony;
kai ouk eGApe-san ten psuCHEN [5590]auTON Achri thaNAtou.
and they loved not their :life even unto death.
e. 12:12a Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you that tabernacle in them.

f. 12;12b A CAUSE OF WOE UPON EARTH-DWELLERS!
ouAI ten gen kai ten THAlas-san, HOti kaTEbeho diAbo-los pros huMAS, Echon thuMON [2372]MEgan,
Woe for the earth and the sea, because the devil is gone down unto you, having great wrath,
eiDOS HOti oLIgon kaiRON [2540]Echei.
knowing that he has but a short season.
g. 12:13 PERSECUTION OF THE WOMAN BY THE DRAGON
Kai HOte EIden ho DRAkon HOti eBLEtheeis ten gen,
And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth,

he persecuted the woman that brought forth the male.
h. 12:14 GOD PROVISIONS FOR THE WOMAN DURING LASTHALF OF GREAT TRIBULATION
kai eDOthe-san te gu-naiKI hai DUo PTEru-ges [4420]tou a-eTOU [105]tou meGAlou
And the two wings of the great :eagle were given to the woman
HIna PEte-tai eis ten Ere-mon eis ton TOpon auTES, HOpou TREphe-tai [5142]eKEI kaiRON, kai kaiROUS,
that she fly to the wilderness to her :place, where she is nourished there for a season, and seasons,
kai HEmi-su kaiROU, aPO proSOpou [4383]tou Ophe-os [3789].
and half a season, from the face of the serpent.
i. 12:15 SATAN INCITES PERSECUTION AGAINST THE CHURCH
kai Eba-len [906] ho Ophis ek tou STOma-tos [4750] auTOU oPIso tes gu-naiKOS HUdor hos po-taMON,
And the serpent cast out of his :mouth after the woman water as a river,
HIna auTEN po-ta-moPHOre-ton [4216]poiEse.
that he might cause her to be carried away by theriver.
j. 12:16 EARTH'S PEOPLE OFFSET SATAN'S PEOPLE
kai e-boEthe-sen [997]he gete gu-naiKI,
And the earth helped the woman,
kai Enoi-xen [455]he geto STOma [4750]auTES kai kaTEpi-en [2666]ton po-taMON
And the earth opened her :mouth and swallowed up the river
hon Eba-len ho DRAkon ek tou STOma-tos auTOU.
which the dragon cast out of his :mouth.
k. 12:17-13:1a SATAN WARS AGAINST THE WOMAN'S SEED
kai orGIS-the[3710]ho DRAkon ePI tegu-naiKI,
And the dragon became wrathful with the woman,
kai aPELthen poiEsai POle-mon [4171]meTA ton loiPON tou SPERma-tos [4690]auTES,
and went away to make war with the rest of her :seed,
ton teROUNton [5083]tas en-toLAS [1785]tou TheOU, kai eCHONton ten mar-tuRIan [3141]IeSOU:
that keep the commandments of :God, and hold the testimony of Jesus:

13:1a and he stood upon the sand of the sea.
NOTE: - 12:1-6 - Much symbolism is in this passage. Books like Daniel and Revelation are much like “dreams and visions”. They on the most part cannot be taken literally, but we must see them also as parables - such as Jesus so commonly used in His teaching. “The Metaphor Dictionary” that appears in “Dreams - The Divinity Code: The Keys to Decoding Your Dreams and Visions” by Adrian Beale and Adam F. In previous notes I have recommended this text for serious students of the above subjects. I had been teaching on how to decode dreams since 1985, but unfortunately could not find a sound text on this subject. Every one I looked into was tainted with the occult and “new age” leanings of Carl Jung.
This text by my Australian friends recognized this problem also, and spent 4 years in producing a text on “dreams” true to the Bible and Evangelical teaching. They were in this area January 22-24, 2010 at Village Chapel, Renton, Washington for a “Dream Seminar” based on their text.
Revelation 12:17-13:1a is a marvelous section recounting the soon-coming full defeat of Satan. Notice 12:11 especially - “And THEY overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their :testimony; and they loved not their :life even unto death.” This is a favorite verse for many who have discovered the effectiveness of “Spiritual Warfare”.
Revelation 12 is so rich, that it would take a book to fully expound it. - J.A.W.
